Making her our own
The Heritage East 36′ met almost every element that we desired in a live aboard to travel the Intra-coastal waterways and America’s Great Loop. Big enough, but not too big. One diesel engine, not two, a bow thruster, no exposed wood above deck, no ladders – only stairs, two staterooms with the master aft, and two heads. This boat is a comfortable live aboard with room for overnight guests. We located 3 boats with this configuration available on the market at the time. To make one our own, we first had to make a purchase. It can be a complicated process with a marine survey, sea trials, contract negotiations, title transfer and insurance. Next came a few decorating changes, along with a new name. There were also a few system upgrades and overhauls to perform to prepare for the pending 6000-mile journey.
Here are just a few.

A big part of making her our own was to give her a unique identity.

A new silicon mattress and all new bedding in the Master Stateroom.

New foam topper and new bedding in the forward stateroom guest quarters.

Five new and VERY heavy house batteries. Another DIY project that counted as a day in the gym.

This windlass was acting less than reliable. A new one is on board and waiting to be installed.
